Person having Piped Natural Gas connection not allowed to have domestic LPG connection

As per recent Gazette Notification published on March 14, 2026 [S.O. 1333 (E)] by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 (10 of 1955), the Central Government has made the order “the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Amendment Order, 2026” further to amend the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order, 2000.

According to the said Amendment Order, 2026:

No person having a Piped Natural Gas connection and also having domestic Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) connection shall retain a domestic LPG connection, or take refills of domestic LPG cylinders from any Government oil company, or through their distributors. Such persons will be required to immediately surrender their domestic LPG connection.

No person having a Piped Natural Gas connection, shall obtain a domestic LPG connection, or take refills of domestic LPG cylinders from any Government oil company, or through their distributors.

Accordingly, Serial No. 13 of Schedule-1 of Order, 2000 has been amended to prohibit providing a domestic LPG connection, and/or supplying domestic LPG cylinder refills to a consumer who already owns a Piped Natural Gas connection.

The said Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Amendment Order, 2026 shall come into force on March 14, 2026.
